The speculation around The Game Awards has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be designing a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
