A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of 2023.

Success also means he has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his skill to perform at the highest level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour title, seized the initiative to create a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early chances in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
